Corktown 5K: No more cold runs!

The Saturday before St. Patrick's Day is a big deal in the Corktown area of Detroit. There is a 5K race  (along with tons of other runs for kids) before the annual Corktown Parade. It is family friendly but is also a great party if that is what you are in the mood for.

This was our first time running this and we had a great time. Our only complaint (besides the cold) was the fact that they didn't start on time so that they could register more runners. Seriously? It's 10 degrees outside and you want me to wait 20 more minutes here at the start line? Really annoying!

But the run was a blast. Tons of costumes and green everywhere! I really enjoy running through the city.

At the finish line!
The finish line was right in front of the Abandoned Train Station in Detroit. Check out more pictures HERE. I've always loved this building and I was excited to have the opportunity to get so close. It's such a beautiful building and I hope they chose to do something good with it sometime soon.

After the race we headed to Ferndale to have some drinks/lunch. We had intentions of hanging out downtown, but it was too cold for us. If it had been warmer we would have stayed to hang out and eat but everything was mostly outside and in tents so it was not working for us.

With that being said, we decided that races below 40 are no longer for us. We ran the Turkey Trot in November and it was even COLDER! Although the races are fun, its not as fun as it could be if the weather was nicer. Most of the races that we like have registration up until 2 days before (some even on the day of the race) so if we aren't sure of the weather, we will wait till the last day of registration to make a decision based on the forecast. No more running in the cold!
