Last weekend we had our first vacation together as a family! We took Zach to Grand Bend in Canada and we stayed at a cottage right on the beach. We rented the cottage with four families.
Friday morning we spent packing up the car and hanging out around the house. We had lunch around 11:00 and then hit the road. The drive to Grand Bend takes us just under 2 hours so we thought that Zach would nap during the drive. We were wrong. He was well behaved but stayed awake the entire time. So when we arrived at the cottage we let him play on the beach and look around the house for a bit before we laid him down for a nap. During his nap we got everything unloaded from the car and relaxed for a bit with the other families. We ordered pizza for dinner and just hung out outside until bedtime.
Saturday morning we had breakfast and then went for a walk. We grabbed coffee and then walked along the strip back down to the beach. We then slowly made our way back to the cottage along the beach. When we got back everyone was up and we headed to the beach. We played until lunch, then napped, and played some more. We relaxed with a few drinks when Zach went to bed.
The view from the back patio. Best location ever! |
Sunday morning we had breakfast and went for a walk again. We really did this every morning because the other families didn't wake up at 6:30AM like Zach does, lol. So we didn't want to wake any one up. After our morning walk, we headed to the Pinery Antique and Flea Market. We walked around for a while and checked stuff out before we headed back for lunch and nap time. There was a lot of cool stuff, local produce and even some junk, lol, but it was fun! After nap time, we played at the beach some more and then everyone went to dinner and checked out the sunset.
Monday was more of the same. Morning walk, playing in the sand, hanging out, etc. There was a little bit of overcast but the temperature was great.
Tuesday morning we woke up, had breakfast and hit the road. Since Jim and I went back to work Wednesday we wanted to get home and have some time to just relax.
Each evening when the kids went to bed all the parents had a bonfire and a couple drinks. One night we stayed up pretty late, but we just napped when Zach did. Zach really enjoyed being outside pretty much every minute of the day. Overall it was a nice vacation although I have to admit that traveling with a 16 month old is not a relaxing getaway. But, it was a great trip and we will definitely make this an annual thing!
Wow! Looks like an awesome place! Always looking for kid-friendly spots, so I will have to keep this in mind :)
